PREVENTING FOOD WASTE
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that between 30-40 percent of the food supply is thrown away each year. This is a staggering 133 billion pounds of food intended for human consumption worth $161 billion.
Preventing Food Waste - Food waste is the single largest category of waste going into municipal landfills. We’re not just wasting food by throwing it away, we’re wasting the farmland, water, labor and energy used to bring that food to the marketplace.
Preventing Food Waste - BAN Productions has relationships with major food distributors and suppliers in Florida and nationwide that have large, regular supplies of surplus food. Most of that food consists of fresh ingredients that cannot be frozen or stored for future use. Currently BAN Productions has the capacity to divert 25,000 pounds of food from the waste stream each week.
BAN Productions participates in USDA’s Food Waste Challenge, which calls on volunteers to recover food waste by connecting potential food donors to hunger relief efforts.
